About Silver State Contractor Guide

Silver State Contractor Guide is an independent reference on Nevada contractor licensing. It exists because answering one practical question — what a license costs, who has to qualify, what a classification lets you build — usually means holding three documents open at once, and not one of them was written for somebody reading it that way.

Editorial standards

Every regulatory statement here is checked against a primary, official source and cited to the provision it comes from. That is stated as an absolute deliberately, which means one counterexample breaks it: if you find a rule, fee, date or deadline on this site with no source named against it, tell us and we will fix it or remove it. In practice the source is one of three things:

A citation here is a section number rather than a hyperlink, and that is the honest form. A section number names the exact subsection a statement rests on; a link cannot do more than that, and against Nevada’s administrative code it would do less. Both chapters are published as single pages, and the administrative code carries no per-section anchors at all — so a URL that appears to point at one section quietly lands at the top of the chapter instead. Such URLs exist in the wild, one of them on the Board’s own site, and this site followed one and published a wrong statement because of it. Two chapter links, used once, beat several hundred in body copy promising a precision the source does not offer.

Where a quotation fits, we quote. Every page that states a regulatory fact carries a Last checked date, which is the date the facts on it were last read against those sources — not the date the page was written or edited.

Where two official sources disagree, both are reported. Nothing is reconciled by deciding which one must be out of date. That has already happened here: the Board’s own summary and the administrative code give different counts for the specialty classifications, and the classifications page publishes both counts and attributes each, rather than choosing. The figures are on that page, where they are re-checked on the regulatory cadence; this page does not repeat them.

Two consequences of that policy are worth stating plainly, because they are unusual:

We leave gaps visible. Several pages end with a short note saying what is not published here yet. That is deliberate. A reference site that fills gaps with plausible-sounding detail is worse than one that admits them, and on this topic a wrong number costs a reader real money.

We do not restate a rule we have only read second-hand. If a figure appears on the Board’s summary page but not in the statute or the regulation, we treat it as a pointer rather than as a fact, and we say which.

Sources in place of a byline

There is no byline on this site, and that is a decision rather than an omission. Expertise here is at the level of the sources and the citations, not at the level of a person, and a credentialed-sounding name on a page would imply a professional relationship that does not exist. What you can act on is the citation.

This site is not affiliated with the Nevada State Contractors Board or any state agency. We do not issue, renew, review or rule on any license, and we cannot intervene in an application or a dispute.
